SnapshotCM 1.82.01 was posted January 26, 2009.

1.82.01 is an important patch release. It contains one critical server fix for which we recommend that everyone update. In certain circumstances, it is possible to create a directory which is its own child. This results in an infinite loop in the database structures and server crash whenever those structures are accessed. This defect also affects the 1.81 and 1.81.01 releases, so if you've not yet updated to 1.82, now is the time to go straight to 1.82.01.

Release 1.82.01 also contains a nice UI improvement: when switching between multiple workspaces, your current browse directory will be remembered separately for each workspace. Several GUI crashes have also been fixed, and the annoying Recent Projects menu bug is also resolved.

For administrators, the repository and proxy servers on Windows now support service start parameters. Also, the cmconfig command now operates on the database in the configured database directory rather than requiring you to cd to your database directory first. For database creating, and if the database directory is not configured, cmconfig will still use the currect directory.

The final change I'll mention is an enhancement to the Source Code Control integration, which SnapshotCM uses to integrate into IDEs like Visual Studio and others. Last week, in working with an IDE provider on behalf of a mutual customer, I learned that they were depending on an optional part of the API, which we subsequently implemented. In a testiment to just how small the world is becoming, the tool's owner is located in Australia, we are in the US, and our mutual customer is in Germany. Working together, we were able to understand what needed to be done and verify a solution in just a couple of days!
