Release Highlights

The SnapshotCM 1.75 release is now posted. Release 1.75 is an incremental release fixing a small number of problems, and is intended to be a long-term stable release.

Compared to pre-1.74 releases, release 1.75 makes it easier to see information about a snapshot and increases the time available to recover a deleted file. It also automatically and transparently compresses large files in storage, and more.

Here are a few details of key features of SnapshotCM 1.75:

• Tool tips: The Project Browser graph now shows snapshot descriptions in a tool tip, making quickly scanning the graph for snapshot details as easy as moving your mouse.
• File storage compression automatically does background compression on large files in the archive. Smaller files with multiple versions are already delta compressed. Of further benefit, compressed files are streamed directly to the client, providing improved WAN performance with less server loading.
• Guaranteed undelete delays cleanup after a file delete so that the delete can be reversed for at least a month. Of course, no file will ever be removed if it has an active reference from any snapshot.
• Smaller changes include visually showing the frozen snapshot state for development snapshots, remembering the last selected project in the Project Manager, adding a recent workspaces menu list, and using the target workspace state to avoid repeated merges during a copy between snapshots.
• We are also updating the ports for our less popular platforms, and adding some additional ports as well. Expect updated Tru64, OpenVMS and IA-64 HP-UX ports, as well as a new IRIX port in the near future. All these are by customer request - let us know if you have need for a new port.
