Customer InterviewBrian Moravecky is the Senior Software Engineer at Sun Nuclear Corporation in Melbourne, Florida. What is your job title?Senior Software Engineer What are your main responsibilities?I do some software development on the older products, and I keep an eye on all the projects that are going on, smoothing out bumps in project development and keeping other developers on track as well as helping them with their design. What do you consider the most exciting--and/or rewarding--part of your job?Getting an application developed that does all the things it is supposed to, and some extras that make it just that little bit better, and completing it all in a timely manner. What's the most challenging part of the job for you?To keep many projects going without enough people and time. What is your background with version control and configuration management solutions?SnapshotCM is the first version control software that we have used at Sun Nuclear. What is your background with SnapshotCM?We were looking for a version control system in early 2004. We narrowed our choice down to two systems and SnapshotCM won out because of its visual view and the excellent response to questions we received from True Blue Software. Why did you start using SnapshotCM?One reason we picked SnapshotCM is the visual view of the project versions that allow you to go right to the one you want. The second was the fast response we got from True Blue Software when asking questions, as well as the time spent explaining their product. Describe your team size and geography. We have six developers, which are connected by our local area network. What challenges do you face doing version control in your team?Changing the team mind set from making copies on their hard drive to making use of the version control solution and the benefits it provides. Do you have any other particular version control challenges related to the type of products you develop? We have a dll that is used in multiple projects. We have been trying to come up with a way to check out the dll, and associated header file, from SnapshotCM so it can be linked into the various projects that use it with out having to move it to another directory every time. What do you feel are the advantages/disadvantages of working with SnapshotCM?The main advantage in SnapshotCM is the visual view of the project versions that allow you to go right to the one you want. What are your top three favorite features of SnapshotCM?
How does SnapshotCM help your team save time/frustration/money?SnapshotCM allows us to release a patch off the last release even when we are in the middle of working on the next release, and then merge the changes into our current working snapshot without having to keep track of things manually. What is refreshing about using SnapshotCM?That we can configure SnapshotCM to match the way we work, rather than being forced to change our work to match the software. What are your plans or hopes for working with True Blue Software in the future? That they continue to be responsive to customer needs, requests and problems. |
