Release Highlights

The 1.75.01 release, now posted, builds on the very stable 1.75 release by fixing a few key problems, and by preparing for compatibility with the up-coming 1.76 release. First, the highlights of 1.75.01. Then we will take a peek at what is coming in 1.76:

Problems fixed in 1.75.01:

  • Last line truncation: On check out, if the last line of a text file has no end-of-line character and has a $ character which is not part of a keyword expansion in the last 10 characters of the line, and keyword expansion is enabled, then the dollar and characters following are not written to the output.
  • Errant directory create mode: On initial check out, implicitly created directories which are not in a workspace, will be created with permissions that prevent creating children. This only occurs on unix systems.
  • False dbck errors: For files which are branched and named differently on each branch, dbck can incorrectly report name inconsistency errors.
  • The 1.75.01 server also contains a few changes to make it backward compatible with the 1.76 server and database changes.

A Peek at 1.76:

The focus of SnapshotCM 1.76 is improving SnapshotCM performance over any low-bandwidth or high-latency network, such as WAN, dial-up, or VPN from home. SnapshotCM performance improvements in 1.76 are accomplished by reducing the number of calls to the server from one per directory to one per directory hierarchy, adding an option to incrementally read any changes, and by providing a self-managing, transparent proxy server for caching revision contents remotely. With these three features, WAN performance for large operations is significantly improved over existing releases. Unexpectedly, we've also noticed moderate improvements in local performance for recursive and workspace update operations!

Existing customers will be notified when 1.76 becomes available.
