New Release Highlights
Release 1.73 introduces significant new functionality into the
Workspace Browser and makes more consistent diff and history functionality
available from Developer Studio and other integrations. Key new benefits allow
you to:
- Search for or select all files that match a given pattern.
The requested search is applied to the items that are visible in either of the
Workspace Browser file views and can be applied to either the file name or the
full file path. For example, to compare all visible header files with the
snapshot version, enter Ctrl-F to open the Find dialog. Next, enter the *.h
pattern and press "Select All" to highlight all header files. Finally, press
the Show Differences icon to open your selected difference display tool on all
selected files. Before pressing "Select All," you can use the standard
workspace filters to widen or narrow the scope of your visible files.
- Browse the files in a snapshot without first having to create
a workspace. When browsing a snapshot that does not have an associated
workspace, you will be prompted to create a new workspace. With release 1.73,
you are given the new option of browsing without a workspace.
- View the content of files without having to check them out
into a workspace. The default viewing tool will be invoked automatically. This
feature is especially useful when browsing a snapshot without a workspace, or
when viewing an old revision of a file from the new active history
display.
- View an individual item history in the new Active History
dialog. From the Active History dialog, you can see all change comments at a
glance. You can also view individual old revision contents, change the active
revision and view differences between any two revisions. In addition, you can
show the standard multi-file report view for a single item. The Active History
dialog is invoked when history for a single item is requested.
- Customize the columns displayed in the Workspace Browser.
Column order and visibility can be customized separately for the Snapshot and
Workspace Views. In addition to the previous file name, modification time and
lock status columns, newly available columns include file size, revision
number, Unix mode, text/binary-type setting, keyword expansion setting, and the
file type description. To enable these new columns, right click on the
Workspace View column header and select "Add Columns to View…" To
reorder a column, drag its header to the desired position.
- Access uniform and enhanced diff and history from both the
Source Code Control integration and the GUI. Holding the shift key down while
invoking diff will open the diff options dialog, even from third-party tools
such as Developer Studio or from any of the Workspace Browser's diff icons or
buttons. Holding the shift key down while opening history on a single item will
also take you directly to the options dialog and will bypass the new Active
History dialog.
- Search history report and built-in difference outputs for
arbitrary strings. These capabilities can be invoked by using the context menu
or Ctrl+F.
