SnapshotCM Tips and Tricks

The SnapshotCM server process, trueserver, runs as a service on Windows and as a daemon on Unix systems. The trueserver program accepts several commands to facilitate control of its operation, to install and/or uninstall it as a service on Windows, and to show its status. In addition, options can specify the necessary network configuration information when running in a redundant cluster environment.

Server commands:

• start – Start the server and wait until started before returning. Return status indicates success or failure.
• stop – Stop the server and wait until stopped before returning. Return status indicates success or failure.
• restart – Stop and immediately restart the server. Return status indicates success or failure.
• status – Display a message indicating the server status (not installed, stopped, or running).
• install – Install the SnapshotCM server as a Windows service. The service must be installed before it can be started. Return status indicates success or failure.
• delete – Remove the SnapshotCM server as a Windows service. The service must be stopped first. Return status indicates success or failure.
• run – Run the SnapshotCM server in the foreground and send messages to standard output.

In addition to the above commands, environmental variables can be specified on the command-line, and a cluster hostname or IP address can be specified to override the defaults. Run trueserver —help to obtain a complete list of options and their descriptions for your platform.
